Keeping a Travel Journal
There is no better way of knowing and remembering a place than by drawing. Our affection for the earth-toned architecture, the winding cobbled streets, the smell of incense in mysterious interiors of churches, the taste of culinary delights, the overflowing textures and colors of the street markets, a late afternoon latte at a sidewalk cafe, these are just a few of the reasons to carry a sketchbook while traveling. Tuscany invites us to slow down, be present to its beauty, and to remember her in the quiet act of observation, drawing with our simple tools of paper, pencil, pen, and watercolors as we breathe in its historic charm.
You will learn how to make quick and slow sketches using pencil, pen, and watercolor focusing on what speaks to you. Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction you will learn the basics of rendering architecture, details, doorways, colors, people, vistas, and more. Your unique imagination is key to a memorable travel journal to share with family and friends. Come with an open mind and a sense of adventure. All abilities are welcome.
In this workshop you will learn approaches to drawing people and places using simple materials and techniques including watercolor, collage and bookmaking to create your own travel journal. We will construct a fold-out book to collect our creations. Bring photos and memorabilia from a previous trip or images from magazines of your dream vacation. All other materials provided.
